Israel Breaches UN Truce

Beirut – Israel violated a UN-imposed truce with Lebanon Saturday, August 19, after a warplane and commandos raided a Hizbullah stronghold in eastern Lebanon and struck a power plant in the village of Bodai.

Lebanese security source said warplanes and helicopters attacked unidentified targets during an air drop of commandos at dawn around Bodai, west of the ancient city of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley, Reuters reported.

Israeli security sources confirmed that the army had carried out a raid in Lebanon on Saturday, Israel radio said..

Israeli warplane blasts Palestinian home in northern Gaza

 An Israeli F-16 warplane at dawn Sunday shelled a Palestinian home owned by one of the Qassam Brigades’ activists in northern Gaza Strip reducing it to rubble, local sources reported.

Eyewitnesses told PIC that IOF phoned Ashraf Al-Seelawi, member of the Qassam Brigades the armed wing of the Hamas Movement, and told him that he had to evacuate his home within half an hour.

Arab doctors general union promises support for Palestinian doctors

At the backdrop of a meeting held in Muscat, Oman last week, Arab doctors general union vowed to support the Palestinian doctors overcome the financial crisis engulfing them as a result of the American led western siege imposed on the democratically-elected PA government.

Dr. Yehya Shawar, head of the Palestinian doctors union, said the conditions in Palestine are very harsh and complicated mainly after the legislative elections; “We have been punished for choosing democracy with starvation and annihilation that resulted in high poverty and unemployment rate while health services weakened”.

He asserted that after the union members heared details about the situation in Palestine there were promises for more effective participation in supporting the Palestinian doctors while Omani, Kuwaiti and Bahraini medical associations promptly promised to provide support the soonest.

Hizbullah Fighters Proud of Resistance

Bint Jbeil, Lebanon — They were leading a normal and peaceful life with their families but as soon as they heard of the Israeli onslaught on their homeland, they were quick to join the Lebanese resistance to fight the Israeli occupation forces.

“I left my wife and son behind to take up arms to defend my homeland and dignity,” a Hizbullah fighter, who identified himself as Haidar, told IslamOnline.net in the Lebanese bastion of resistance Bint Jbeil Friday, August 18.

Two killed in Gaza airstrike

Two people have been killed and at least ten wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a house in Gaza early on Wednesday.

The strike blew up a house in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

The attack completely destroyed the two-storey house, killing two men who were inside and wounding at least ten, some in the house and some from neighbouring homes damaged by the explosion, medics said.

Residents identified the dead as a member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and his father, who they said was not a member of the group.

Israelis want Olmert out of office after his failure in Lebanon

Tel Aviv - The well-known Israeli political commentator in the Hebrew Ha’aretz newspaper Ari Shavit has unequivocally called on Israeli premier Ehud Olmert to quit his post and resign for mishandling the war on Lebanon.

“Olmert fell in all possible mistakes starting from his uncalculated decision to go on war against Hizbullah, burying more than 120 IOF soldiers, and sending more than a million settler into hiding in underground shelters for more than a month now”, said the Israeli critic.

He added that Olmert has dragged the entire “Israeli people” to this war and promised them imminent victory over Hizbullah fighters; yet, he added, all his promises proved to be illusions, and therefore, he couldn’t stay in power for one additional day.
