Israel Breaches UN Truce

Beirut – Israel violated a UN-imposed truce with Lebanon Saturday, August 19, after a warplane and commandos raided a Hizbullah stronghold in eastern Lebanon and struck a power plant in the village of Bodai.

Lebanese security source said warplanes and helicopters attacked unidentified targets during an air drop of commandos at dawn around Bodai, west of the ancient city of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley, Reuters reported.

Israeli security sources confirmed that the army had carried out a raid in Lebanon on Saturday, Israel radio said..

Israeli warplane blasts Palestinian home in northern Gaza

 An Israeli F-16 warplane at dawn Sunday shelled a Palestinian home owned by one of the Qassam Brigades’ activists in northern Gaza Strip reducing it to rubble, local sources reported.

Eyewitnesses told PIC that IOF phoned Ashraf Al-Seelawi, member of the Qassam Brigades the armed wing of the Hamas Movement, and told him that he had to evacuate his home within half an hour.

First Arab-Israeli War , 15 May 1948

Arab opposition to an Israeli state began after the Balfour Declaration 1917, which supported the idea of a Jewish national homeland. In the 1920s there were anti-Zionist riots in Palestine, after the British mandate government allowed thousands of Jews to immigrate to Palestine from all over the world.

In 1936 an Arab revolt led to a British royal commission that recommended partition (approved by United Nations 1947), but rejected by the Arabs.

When it became clear that the British intended to leave by May 15, leaders of the Yishuv decided (as they claim) to implement that part of the partition plan calling for establishment of a Jewish state. West Bank

West Bank, territory in southwestern Asia, in the Middle East, located west of the Jordan River, occupied by Israel since 1967 . It covers an area of about 5879 sq km and supports a population of about 973,500. All of the people are Palestinian Arabs. There is some Jews who have settled in the area since 1967. The West Bank was part of the British League of Nations Palestine mandate from 1922 to 1948, after the first Arab Israeli war in 1948 , Jordan took control of the region in 1949 . This ancient city has given its name to the Gaza Strip , a territory that was occupied by Israeli forces from 1967 until 1994.
